The Ten Tors event is always one to stir the emotions, bringing an enormous sense of achievement and pride. 400 Teams of 6 set off across Dartmoor for one of the last remaining true outdoor event challenges for teenagers.
The 35 mile Team raced around the tors on Saturday, battling very wet ground and relentless sun. They slowed a little on Sunday but arrived beaming up the finish track to take the well-deserved cheers of the crowd, family and friends. They finished their route in good time for lunch. A fantastic achievement for Will, Jamie, Elliot, Jonny, Sammie and Jenny.
The 45 mile Team lost two of their members, who fought bravely on late into Saturday with foot problems and sickness. Unfortunately Dan and Josh couldn't take any of the shared equipment with them, which left the remaining four with heavy loads to carry. Freyja, Chloe, Jordan and Ryan caught up lost time and appeared confident but somewhat footsore just before 3pm. Well done to them especially dealing with the additional problems they faced.
Thanks go to their team managers Andy Waters, Father Steve Hunt, Steve Whaley and Jim Manning. They put in many hours training the students on the moors, then spent the entire weekend pacing nervously up and down, but had no greater pleasure than seeing them cross the finish line.
A wonderful group of supporters came to welcome the teams back and were treated to a glorious blue sky day, high up on the moors above Okehampton. Former Ten Tors team members (who remembered the pain of their own blisters like it was yesterday), mums, dads, brothers, sisters, grandparents and friends were all treated to a celebration BBQ masterminded by Alison Marsden.
