I’m writing to you at the end of another week of lock down, and I know that many families are finding the current conditions very difficult.  Please be assured that we are doing everything we can to ensure that the school provides support to your children through these difficult times.

I wrote to parents in the senior school earlier in the week detailing the arrangements for the next few weeks of term.  Thank you for the feedback I have received about this.  Please be assured we are looking at everything we can do to support our students over the next few weeks.

As I said last week, the offer made to most children across the country is considerably less than we have managed at Kingsley, and I am very grateful to you for the supportive messages I have received from so many parents, thanking us for the provision we have made so far.

It has been lovely to welcome back some of our younger children this week.  Parents in year 6 decided collectively that they wanted to keep their children at home, so we have opened for the younger children only.  It’s been lovely to see them back, and I’m very grateful to the teaching and support staff who have worked so hard to make arrangements to keep them safe on their return to school.

We are looking at ways in which we can fulfil the government’s ambition to bring back 25% of children in years 10 and 12, and will be in touch with parents of children in those years to find out what is wanted from the school after 15th June.

In the meantime, children in the senior school are starting to think about revision and exams.  I know some children find these worrying, but they are normal things to worry about, and returning to some semblance of “normal” is so important at this time.  We do want to see how well our children have been learning during this time so we can measure what we are doing is effective.  We can best do this by assessing our students’ progress so far.

I do hope that you are continuing to stay well, but, like you I am looking forward to being able to see the children back at school and able to see their friends and teachers.

With my very best wishes

Gill Jackson
