Hundreds of children took part in the Gliddon Squires North Devon cross country league meet at Northam Burrows Country Park this Sunday, in the bitter cold.
At each starting gun, runners were unleashed, stampeding along the Burrows between the pebble ridge at Westward Ho! Beach and the 2nd hole at the Royal North Devon Golf Course!
Amongst the relentless procession of colours, it was good to see purple Kingsley kit race by – ever more mud-spattered and soggy from the freezing streams – weaving and racing around two loops of this great new course.
Even from my vantage point, I could see lots of happy runners at the finish line, smiles of accomplishment and no doubt thoughts of home and a well deserved Sunday roast!
