Learning Development Centre
Central to the inclusive ethos of Kingsley School is that all pupils succeed no matter what barriers to learning they may have. We take dyslexia and additional educational needs seriously and are committed to supporting all pupils to achieve in every part of school life. Our aim is to help every pupil achieve their potential. The Learning Development Centre provides experienced and expert teaching in a relaxed but purposeful atmosphere.
Our GCSE English pupils follow the AQA 9 – 1 syllabus. We focus on literature, poetry, grammar and reading comprehension. Our pupils are supported by introducing GCSE English topics and texts early on in their senior school career. In addition to the support they receive from staff, pupils benefit from the use of laptops, Dragon voice recognition software, dictaphones and reading pens.
The school does everything possible to develop the self-confidence of all our students through academic, enrichment and pastoral activities. As a department, we have recently celebrated pupils’ success in writing competitions, thoroughly enjoyed an educational visit to London, and pride ourselves on being a safe haven for pupils when they need a bit of TLC. To this end, staff members are trained in the Thrive Approach to support and develop pupils’ emotional and social well-being, as well as to extend their academic potential.
