In UK homes £12.5 billion worth of food that could have been eaten is thrown away every year. This equates to a national average of £700/year for families with children, £60/month. Wasting food is not only an issue in our homes but also in schools. At Kingsley, we work really hard to reduce food waste.

Earlier this year the school invested in 2 RIDAN composter systems to deal with the food waste from the kitchen. Here’s what happens to our food:

The compost produce from the system can then be used on the market garden part of the Earth Centre project. As we have only just filled the first maturation box at the beginning of November we will have to wait to see the final product…..
