Southwest ISA Cross Country Championships
Following on from the inter-house cross-country championships at Kingsley in December, 32 pupils were selected to participate in the Southwest ISA Championships at Westonbirt School in Gloucester on Tuesday.
The competition saw young runners from Year 4 to Year 11 enjoying a lovely challenging course around Westonbirt grounds.
The Southwest event attracted 14 ISA schools attending from as far as Cornwall, Wales, Wiltshire, and Hampshire. This event was also a qualifying event for the National Finals, which will be held in March.
We left Kingsley at 9 am and drove to Tetbury, arriving just before 12 noon, allowing our pupils to walk the new course and taste the conditions.
Our Prep School pupils started the day with lots of enthusiasm and courage as they lined up for their races, all a little nervous. Still, they all quickly settled into their pace, racing well, showing lots of determination and potential for the future. Congratulations to all our Prep Pupils, who all ran fearlessly alongside some tough opposition from the other schools, and we look forward to building on their potential in future events. Henry M was our top finishing position in 7th place in the Year 5 & 6 boys category.
Our senior school athletes took two first-place finishes – Year 7 Elise winning her year group race, while Year 9 pupil Finley won the boys Year 8 & 9 category. Bodie was in 6th Place, James M in 8th and Oakley in 11th.
Maddie ran at a brilliant pace and came home in 4th place in the girls Year 8 & 9 race. In the boys Year 7 race, Theo R finished in 7th, with Theo J just outside the qualifying position in 12th.
Isla finished in 7th place in the girls Year 10 & 11 race, with Kate K taking 12th place. In the boys’ race for Year 10 & 11, Travis finished in 6th with teammate Joe S in 7th place.
Overall, the event was well organised. The settings and grounds made for a memorable experience for all our pupils who represented Kingsley’s sporting values with great fortitude and bravery.
Congratulation to our pupils who qualified to represent the Southwest Team at the National Cross-Country Finals at Worksop College on the 19th of March in Nottingham.
