The Kingsley Learning and Development Centre (LDC) has recently undergone a CReSTeD (The Council for the Registration of Schools Teaching Dyslexic Pupils) inspection. Following this inspection, Kingsley has been awarded the CReSTed status for its first class learning support for pupils; the only school in Devon and Cornwall with this national recognition.

Head of Head of LDC/SENDCO, Mrs Naomi Jefferies said: “I am completely delighted with the outcome of the inspection, and proud that we are the only school in Devon and Cornwall to achieve this award. Kingsley has been praised by the inspectors for its teaching and learning support of our pupils. The CReSTeD inspector’s recognition of the high-quality provision we offer for students with specific literacy difficulties highlights the excellent work the team has done, supporting and building upon the inclusive and dynamic teaching of Kingsley’s staff. I am particularly pleased with the positive comments of the inspector, as the school was inspected under the new CReSTeD criteria and found to be a centre of excellence for the teaching of students with specific literacy difficulties/dyslexia and other additional needs.  As a relative newcomer to the Kingsley team, I have been struck by the wonderful pastoral care the team offer at Kingsley and teachers’ interest in and knowledge of each student. Young people are valued, supported as individuals and encouraged to reach their potential, whatever their learning style. It is a privilege to be part of such a nurturing, student-centred team and to see our students with literacy difficulties progress and flourish.”

Headmaster, Mr Pete Last added: “The School’s raison d’être is to encourage our pupils to share their ambitions, along with their anxieties, so we can provide a tailored education in a nurturing, secure, safe and above all fun environment. Kingsley is a mainstream school; our teachers train to use the best teaching techniques and keep up to date with all the latest educational practice research, which, of course, is essential for teaching all pupils, including the most able. We simply work on the assumption that if your child can’t learn one way, then the school will do all it can to teach in a way that supports your child. Kingsley is a place which really does recognise that each child has individual needs, with their own set of skills and talents that deserve to be developed. We are really proud to have received this CReSTeD accreditation. It is a testimony to all the hard work that goes on, day after day, to ensure that all our students can make progress and achieve success. The staff in the Kingsley LDC is comprised of a fantastic team of specialist teachers, classroom teachers and teaching assistants who work above and beyond to meet students’ needs. It is important to celebrate the high level of professionalism we have here in North Devon and the excellent work that takes place at Kingsley to enable all students to excel academically and develop in self-confidence and independent learning.”
