The next in the series of year 9 Royal Institution mathematics Masterclass series took place at Kingsley on Saturday.

Students from local schools are nominated by their teacher to attend the 6 Saturday morning workshops and we have 28 students from 7 local schools attending these sessions at Kingsley.

Day 1, on 3rd November, was led by Mr James McCaffrey and the students were introduced to Graph Theory, a Further Mathematics A-level concept. The students discussed the famous “Bridges of Konisberg problem” and learned how to find the most efficient route.

Day 2, on 17th November, was led by Mr Luke Cole from Community School and students studied Linear Programming, also a concept that isn’t taught unless you study Further Mathematics A-level. Students were given real life problems involving manufacturing products and optimising profit.
