Dear Parents and Guardians,

I am delighted to announce that Mr Robert Pavis has been appointed to the position of Head of Kingsley School.  He will be taking over from Alastair Ramsay, who will be the Interim Head until Robert’s appointment takes effect at the end of the Spring Term. There will be opportunities for everybody to meet Robert during this interim period and before he officially takes over.

Robert is currently Deputy Head (Pastoral) at Gordon’s School in Surrey.  Gordon’s is a top state boarding school with an excellent academic and pastoral reputation.  Educated at Lawrence Sherriff Grammar School in Rugby, he was awarded a BA (Hons) at Durham University and then went on to teach English at a school in Japan.  He returned to the UK in 1995 and taught English at Grittleton House School for a short period before moving to Wycliffe College in Gloucestershire where he worked for 15 years; initially as an Assistant Housemaster and Head of Japanese and German, and then for 12 years as the Housemaster of the largest boys’ boarding and day house, and Head of the Modern Languages faculty.  In 2011 Robert moved to Steyning Grammar School in Sussex as Assistant Head and Director of Boarding where he achieved two successive outstanding OFSTED inspections for boarding and pastoral care and increased boarding numbers threefold over an eighteen month period.

In 2014 Robert moved to Gordon’s School as Deputy Head (Pastoral).  During his time at Gordon’s, Robert has been instrumental in helping the school achieve four outstanding OFSTED inspections and has raised academic standards so that Gordon’s ranks in the top 1% of schools in the country.  He implemented a successful marketing and admissions strategy for entry into the sixth form and achieved significant overall growth in pupil numbers, both day and boarding. Robert also led on a five-year digital strategy and the development of sport and co-curricular at the school.

Robert is married to Heather who has previously worked in boarding at Wycliffe College and Brighton College, and who is currently the Head of a girls’ Day Boarding House at Gordon’s. He has three children: George lives in Exeter and works as a Post-doctorate Researcher at Exeter University; Harry lives and works in Spain as a website and social media consultant; and Edith is in her third year studying at Bath University. Robert has always been a keen sportsman and environmentalist; when not at work in Surrey, he can be found enjoying a range of outdoor activities and adventurous pursuits around his home in Cornwall.

The Directors of KSI are delighted that Robert will be joining Kingsley.  He has the qualities and experience to take Kingsley School forward through the next phase of its development.  He has articulated an exciting vision for the School which encompasses its ethos of inclusivity, caring for others and the environment, and helping young people to become confident, successful and well-rounded adults.

Robert said: “At the heart of my drive and motivation has been the desire to provide excellent academic, pastoral and co-curricular education to both day and residential students from the whole spectrum of socio-economic, domestic and international backgrounds. I am looking forward very much to meeting all the staff, students and parents and to becoming part of the Kingsley community.”
