Year 11 students, Megan, Ruby and Alice were all invited to the Women’s U18 GB squad trials this weekend.

The training session and trials were held in Scotland with around 40 girls trying out.

As well as representing the school Megan, Ruby and Alice all play for Bideford Blacks handball club and play in the SW regional team.

The GB lead coach commented that the level of talent this year was significantly higher than in the past and a sign that the game of handball has developed significantly across the country, but particularly in the South West which had a high level of representation in the trials. This is a direct reflection on the dedication of the exceptional coaches and organisers of the teams based at Kingsley.

The girls all played very well, working hard; participating well in defending, creating plays, scoring many goals, and having a fantastic ‘can-do’ attitude.

The girls will find out in a couple of weeks, and if successful will join a 4 year training programme which is aimed at feeding into the main GB women’s team to play at international level, including potentially in the olympics.

Congratulations girls – we are all really proud of you. And, a huge thank you to your parents for their unstinting support and enthusiasm.
