Kingsley School’s 6th Form Judoka Gareth made his debut at the British Junior U20 National Championships on Saturday.

It was a massive opportunity for Gareth to compete at this Elite level, its a tough challenge but something Gareth has worked really hard towards all year and considering he has only been a competitive judoka for 18 months, it’s a fantastic achievement that he has reached this level in such a short amount of time.

Gareth, who is also currently taking part in the DiSE Diploma in Sporting Excellence Programme at Bath University was with this DiSE team under the guidance of Bath University Performance Coach Adam Hall in Sheffield.

Gareth was competing in the Under 73kg category alongside 23 of the best Judoka from Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and England.

Gareth fought with great determination throughout the event, he didn’t reach any medal position; however, he did compete with courage. He showed a super attitude towards the competition, said Adam.

Gareth gained valuable experience from the event. It hopefully will take the lessons learnt and move forward with his training to improve his potential for next season.

After his performance in Sheffield, Team Bath also selected to compete at the Iceland Open in Reykjavik in January. This is an amazing opportunity to gain further experience and cements Bath’s faith in Gareth and his potential.
